Connect Hermes

Add UniFeeds to Hermes Agent by Nous Research with one command, then sign in.

Before you start

  • Hermes Agent installed and up to date. Run hermes update if you're not sure.
  • Hermes is free and open source, so there's no plan to check.
  • Sign in from a computer with a browser. If Hermes runs on a server or as a chat bot, see the server steps or use an API key.
  • At least one social account connected on the Connections page in UniFeeds, so the AI has somewhere to post.

Connect

Add UniFeeds

Run this in a terminal. Hermes connects and opens your browser, or prints a link to open. --connect-timeout 300 gives you five minutes to sign in.

Terminal
hermes mcp add unifeeds --url "https://mcp.unifeeds.io/mcp" --auth oauth --connect-timeout 300

Sign in to UniFeeds, pick your workspace, and click Allow. If Hermes asks which tools to turn on, choose all. If it timed out, or to sign in again later, run hermes mcp login unifeeds.

Load the tools

Start a new session, or type /reload-mcp in an open one. To check from a terminal, run this.

Terminal
hermes mcp test unifeeds

Other ways to set it up

Edit config.yaml yourself

Add this to ~/.hermes/config.yaml

Then run hermes mcp login unifeeds.

config.yaml
mcp_servers:
  unifeeds:
    url: "https://mcp.unifeeds.io/mcp"
    auth: oauth

Hermes on a server or as a chat bot

Sign in on that machine

Run hermes mcp login unifeeds in a terminal on the machine that runs Hermes. The Hermes desktop app works too. The dashboard's Authorize button works only when you open the dashboard at 127.0.0.1 or localhost, for example through an SSH tunnel (ssh -N -L).

Paste the address back

If your browser can't reach that machine, the page fails to load after you click Allow. Copy the full address from the address bar and paste it into Hermes when it asks.

Load the tools

A running gateway picks up the sign-in on its own. If the tools don't show, send /reload-mcp in the chat.

Check it works

Start a new session and ask:

Prompt
Use the UniFeeds whoami tool and tell me which workspace you're connected to and whether you can make changes.

Hermes should name your UniFeeds workspace and say whether it can make changes. If it picked the wrong workspace or can only read, reconnect and choose again. With an API key, use a read and write key made in the right workspace.

Manage the connection

Remove UniFeeds from Hermes. This also clears its sign-in.

Terminal
hermes mcp remove unifeeds

To cut the app off from UniFeeds' side, open Connected apps on the API keys page and select Disconnect. Workspace members can disconnect their own apps; admins can disconnect any.

Use an API key instead

Handy for servers and chat bots, where a browser sign-in is hard.

Troubleshooting

hermes mcp add timed out before you signed in

Run hermes mcp login unifeeds. It waits up to five minutes for you to click Allow.

The page doesn't load after you click Allow

That's normal when Hermes runs on another machine. Copy the full address from the address bar and paste it into Hermes.

hermes mcp login refuses to run

The unifeeds entry needs auth: oauth. Run hermes mcp remove unifeeds, then add it again with --auth oauth.

UniFeeds' tools don't show in a session

Type /reload-mcp or start a new session.

hermes mcp test says unifeeds isn't set up

UniFeeds isn't in this profile's config. Add it again with the command above.

Sign-in and workspace problems that happen in every app are on the Troubleshooting page. Still stuck? Email support@unifeeds.io.
